Horse riding route designed for experienced riders who are proficient in all three gaits: walk, trot and gallop. REQUIRED LEVEL.
The route consists of 3 horseback rides totalling between 70 and 73 km over 3 days of riding. The first route is 24 kms, the second 31 kms and the third 17.5 kms.
Throughout the whole route you will cross landscapes of great geological, natural and cinematographic value, where characters such as ‘Indiana Jones’, ‘The man with no name’ or the ‘Dothrakis’ have lived their adventures. The Tabernas Desert is considered the only true desert in Europe due to its arid characteristics. Its appearance and physiognomy resembles like a drop of water the American deserts of Arizona, California, New Mexico or Nevada, which is why more than half of the European Western production was developed in this region. Tabernas gave its name to this area in 1989 when it was protected for its geological and natural value, partly because it was the setting for dozens of audiovisual productions, creating a spontaneous tourist brand: the European Hollywood.
The journey proposed by Malcaminos aims to traverse the Tabernas Desert, with it.ineraries averaging 25/30 km per day, alternating between walking, trotting and canter, discovering the wide range of landscapes that characterise the most arid area of Europe.
Adventure, sport and a great atmosphere are the mottos for this trek through the Tabernas Desert. This is a brand new route. The route has been developed by the Malcaminos team, as have the activities, based on ancient animal trails and official routes, as well as knowledge of the desert and its many facets: geological, historical, natural and, of course, cinematographic.
The itinerary is summarised as follows:
DAY 1: Arrival at the ranch, accommodation at the ranch inn and horse and saddle fitting. Evening and dinner at the inn. Self-service.
DAY 2: Breakfast and morning transfer to the starting point – departure for the full day, lunch included. Arrival at destination, preparation of campsite or rural inn accommodation, activity and overnight stay.
DAY 3: Breakfast and half-day horse ride, arrival at destination, typical meal and activity, accommodation in an aparthotel or small hotel.
DAY 4: Breakfast and full day of horse riding with picnic for the road, arrival at destination, visit to a western town, activity and overnight stay at campsite.
DAY 5: Breakfast and half day of horse riding, arrival at destination, typical meal and activity, accommodation at Malcaminos hostel. Evening horse riding (included – optional).
DAY 6: Breakfast and half-day ride, circuit. Return to the ranch. Lunch and group activity. Afternoon departure from accommodation.

– Helmet are compulsory and body protection is optional.
– If riders do not wish to wear a helmet, they must sign a liability waiver and provide a copy of their private insurance policy.

- Designed for intermediate/advanced and experienced riders. It is essential to be comfortable in all three gaits: walk, trot and canter. No refunds will be given if the rider is unable to complete the course due to a lack of experience in long rides, which require a certain level of technical skill and good physical condition.
- 5-7 hours on horseback per day, depending on the pace of the group and the route.
- Minimum age: 18 years old – Maximum age: 70 years old.
- Maximum weight: 90 kg.
- You may bring your own horse.
